Life has many twists and turns, and there is no way to know for sure where it is going to take you next. Sometimes, even the best things in life can come as a surprise, which is how Jennifer and Dehavon feel about being married to each other. Jennifer and Dehavon met through a mutual friend, and Dehavon actually asked Jennifer’s eldest sister if he could date Jennifer, and she told him no.
The friendship that resulted from the meeting, however, blossomed into a relationship that will last a lifetime. After being close friends for 10 years, Jennifer and Dehavon finally went on their first date at the National Harbor. Talk about life coming full circle.
Having the same passion for youth and young adult mentoring within their church, this relationship was truly a match made in heaven. After 7 months of dating, Dehavon proposed at the end of a Martin’s West tour. As he is always concerned about her happiness, it came as an extra-sweet surprise that day since Jennifer was having a bad day. She knew from the moment she accepted the proposal that she wanted to get married at the same place Dehavon proposed, and that’s when we at Judah Avenue stepped onto the scene.
We found Jennifer getting ready at the Gaylord Hotel in Oxon Hill, MD, where she was surrounded by her bridesmaids. It was a playful morning filled with laughter and happy chatter as they eagerly changed into their dresses and helped Jennifer slip into her gown. They were incredibly thorough, ensuring she got the perfect fit. With her hair and makeup done, Jennifer looked simply glorious.
Meanwhile Dehavon made ready for the big event surrounded by his own group of friends. By the time they had finished helping him get ready, he looked regal himself. We snapped multiple photos of both Jennifer and Dehavon with their parties, capturing the beauty of all the support these friends and family have for this wonderful couple.
Then, it was off to the ceremony! Everyone piled into the waiting cars, and we were off to the Central Baptist Church where the guests had already filled the pews from wall to wall. They eagerly awaited the arrival of the bridal party, and it wasn’t long before the procession began. Flowers were spread along the aisle, making it perfect for Jennifer’s walk. The way this couple expressed their wedding vows to each other was simply breathtaking, showcasing how much they truly love each other. Joyful tears spilled over on many of the guests’ cheeks, and everyone cheered as the new couple was pronounced man and wife. Of course, we captured it all on camera, then took multiple photos of the bride and groom surrounded by their loved ones.
The reception was at La Fontaine Bleue in Lanham, MD, and it had been gloriously decorated for the event. With a magnificent chandelier hanging from the ceiling and a perfect wedding cake standing in the corner, the reception was regal enough for royalty. Jennifer and Dehavon celebrated their Nigerian roots during the reception, with many of the guests dressed in traditional clothing, and dancing taking place all throughout the hall.
With the magical addition of heavenly clouds creeping over the floor, Jennifer and Dehavon looked like they were dancing in the middle of a heavenly ball – what a beautiful sight. The couple was lavished with gifts and sprayed by Nigerian tradition – money, from their guests, and there were well-wishes and blessings hovering in the air. The rest of the evening was filled with more dancing, laughter, and beautiful wedding traditions that all the guests partook in. It was truly an evening that everyone will remember.
Thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your special day, it’s clear that you are going to have many, many beautiful years together, and all of us here at Judah Avenue want to extend our congratulations.
