They say there is a moment in every couples’ lives when they simply know they are meant to be together. Whether it’s a mutual interest, a mutual disinterest, or just the feeling of having been completed, when it’s meant to be, there’s no second guessing. As wedding photographers, we are privileged to be a part of the moment when two people stop leading separate lives and join together as one – especially when it is clear that they are soulmates. Our day started as we eagerly snapped photos of Emily getting ready for the ceremony in her mother’s rowhouse. Her gown hanging in the window, her friends and family gathered around her, and a pair of bright red shoes made getting ready a blast. She and her soon-to-be husband, Dave, had met at a mutual friend’s Halloween party when they were both in college.
Not only did the two become fast friends, but they discovered that they had a mutual love for Star Wars and WWE – two themes that magically made their way into the couple’s special day. Emily’s gorgeously blue eyes simply sparkled with anticipation and excitement as she got her makeup done, and when she put on her earrings, it was evident how thrilled she was. As we snapped a few photos of her in her wedding gown, she looked like she belonged on the cover of her own magazine.
Meanwhile, Dave and his friends and family were getting ready back at the couple’s apartment. The Star Wars theme was already evident as not only did Emily’s garter have a Darth Vader Embellishment, but all the groomsmen – and even the groom himself – sported Darth Vader and Stormtroopers in their attire. After getting dressed, the men relaxed with a game of pool while they waited for the bridal party to be ready.
Between having a few drinks and lifting weights, everyone was having a good time. Back at the rowhouse, we were able to capture a beautiful moment between the bride and her father, as they both broke down in joyful tears and embraced. After helping his daughter get her shoes on, the time had come – and we were off to the location! The couple chose the Constitution Roof Terrace right here in Washington D.C. for the ceremony, and it was amazing how they had transformed it into a Star Wars celebration. Four characters awaited the arrival of the couple, and played an important role in the wedding itself. Guests were divided between the Light Side and the Dark Side, with quotes from the movie strategically placed.
The ceremony itself was beautiful in spite of the light rain – no one seemed to mind at all. After exchanging vows and rings, it was time for the real party to begin. We kicked off the celebration by snapping as many photos as possible of the newlyweds both with each other and with their loved ones. It’s clear that Emily and Dave aren’t the only Star Wars fans here.
Though the initial part of the reception was still strongly Star Wars themed, once the dancing started, the WWE side of things came out. We snapped a photo of the newlyweds with their personalized championship belts, and as their dancing was strongly reminiscent of a WWE match.
Friends and family got in on the action, and with dinner, cake, speeches, and blessings, this was truly a wedding no one will ever forget. As the sun began to set in the sky, we were able to snap a few last photos of Emily and Dave, looking perfectly at peace with each other and ready to spend their lives together.
And wonder of wonders, sometime after the stormy rain during the ceremony a rainbow appeared! To the bride and groom we say this is a beautiful sign that there will always be hope for them no matter what life may bring! With the sun gone and the lights going, friends and family gave the couple toasts, and the dancing and games continued long into the evening. We snapped one final photo of the couple with the Capitol Building lit up in the background – the parting magical touch to a perfectly magical day.
All of this fabulousness took us back to their engagement session. We knew these two were something special! You did it guys! And now, may the force be with you always! We wish you a happy married life!
