Jalla got her man! The man of her dreams, to be more specific. She met her husband, Andre, online and we were so thrilled to be their wedding photographers and play a part in their fabulous wedding day at the Morrison House in Alexandria, Virginia. After a sweet courtship, Andre proposed on Friday, February 13, 2015. But the getting to that proposal point was quite the experience! A few days before he proposed, Andre, who was only her boyfriend at that time, insisted that he and Jalla should have lunch together. Being the practical one in their relationship, Jalla told Andre that it would be difficult because her work schedule would make that impossible. Also, the weather was crazy at the time as it was snowing quite a bit, which made it difficult to get around.
Eventually, being the loving partner that she is, she agreed to meet Andre for lunch. She was, however, a bit apprehensive that she would not make it on time. The day before their lunch date, Andre mentioned to Jalla that “it might really matter to you what you wear tomorrow.” She particularly found his remark odd since she already loved to dress up, so asking her to pay attention to her appearance seemed unnecessary. In the back of her mind, she grew mildly suspicious that Andre might be up to something because she remembered that she always told him that she wanted to be dressed nicely when he proposed. But given that she had court that day, and the fact that it was freezing and snowing, she pushed the idea of a proposal taking place that day to the side. Thankfully, her day at court went smoothly and the weather didn’t prohibit her from meeting Andre at her office, but as a precaution, she decided to request the rest of the day off just in case.
Jalla always thought Andre would propose to her at the Washington Monument because he had always hinted that it would never be in a place that is insignificant or a place where they had never been. She thought, if they walked in the direction of the Washington Monument then it meant he was proposing. If not, it wasn’t happening. Instead, they walked straight ahead toward Chinatown. At that point, she thought they really were just going to have lunch, and boy, was she disappointed. Eventually, the walk led them to the National Portrait Gallery and Andre insisted on cutting through the museum’s courtyard to get to the restaurant. She was wearing the ugliest boots and Andre started to insist that she take off her coat and change her shoes as soon as they walked inside the museum.
Jalla took off her coat but she refused to change her shoes because it didn’t make sense to change shoes if they were just walking through the museum. Plus, she did not really want to cooperate much since she was a bit disappointed that he wasn’t proposing! They walked to the Kogod Courtyard and Andre asked that they sit for a while because it was so beautiful. In that instant, he got down on his knees and proposed! Jalla was stunned. He then told her the whole thing was being videotaped and photographed and Jalla quickly scrambled to change her shoes at that point! Unbeknownst to her, there were 2 photographers present capturing the proposal from the time they walked into the museum. The photographers, who were two grad students of Andre’s, blended in perfectly with the tourists taking photographs, so she had no clue they were being watched.
This highly charged and exciting proposal experience made their wedding day a climactic culmination of Jalla and Andre’s journey, love and commitment. The day was filled with elaborate details. The bedazzled heels, with Mrs. Marshall inscribed on the sole, and the matching clutch that the bride had made us swoon. And Andre’s double-breasted tux and smart bow tie made him a truly dapper groom. Please join us on congratulating Andre and Jolla on their matrimonial union and enjoy these photos from their wedding day.
