The power and allure of science discovery and exploration isn’t lost on those in the Washington D.C. area, as we’re the home to many think tanks, research labs and historic scientific institutions. The Carnegie Institution of Science, which was established back in 1906, is an underrated but fantastic wedding venue that marries art, science and history together.
Lauren and Norman, who met while working on a State Department project in Rosslyn, Va., chose the Carnegie Institution of Science for their wedding venue and we have to say that we truly fell in love with the stunning marble floors, the powerfully classic white columns and the rich, wooded walls that lent credence to the research and learning that inspired the creation of the institution. While the venue was full of intriguing architecture and decor, Lauren and Norman were a unique combination in and of themselves. Norman is of Jamaican descent while Lauren is African-American, but they are both members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. If you’ve ever witnessed an Orthodox wedding, then you know how beautiful those ceremonies are. But as always, it starts with getting-ready preparations, which took place at The Darcy Hotel.
Lauren’s bridal jewelry was timeless and to die for! We loved the pearl necklace and the bejeweled hair clip and dangling earrings were such a nice touch.
With the bridal costume completely assembled, Lauren was ready to step out for her big day with her mother and sister by her side. Meanwhile, Norman was similarly gathering himself to exchange vows with his bride-to-be.
Not all grooms can pull off the white tuxedo, but we think Norman definitely looked supremely dapper in his crisp white tux.
And the First Look happens in 1, 2, 3….!
After the First Look shots at the Carnegie Institution wrapped up, it was time to head over to the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church for the wedding ceremony.
After a truly inspired wedding ceremony, it was time to head back to the Carnegie Institution for the wedding reception. The reception hall was decorated exquisitely and the guests walked into an evening festivity that looked like something from a fairytale.
As often happens with Judah Avenue weddings, we spotted a former groom of ours, Dyami. His 2016 wedding to his beautiful bride Michelle at the Westin in Annapolis, Md., was definitely a highlight for us.
As the night came to a close, it was time to say good night to Mr. and Mrs. Sheriff and we couldn’t have been more blessed and proud to have served as the wedding photographers for such a special occasion. Congratulations, Lauren and Norman! We wish you a lifetime of happiness and love.
