There are those who meet and marry within the year, and there are those who extend their engagement much, much longer. There are those who know from the beginning that they wish to be together, and there are those who let the attraction build over time. Then, of course, there are those who just know who they want to spend the rest of their life with, but they choose not to rush. Some may have wondered how long Teresa and Paapa were going to go until they got married – after 13 years of being together, they finally decided to tie the knot and become a married couple. We cannot express how much of an honor it was that the fabulous Teresa and her dapper Paapa chose us to be their wedding photographers for their special day at the Samuel Riggs Alumni Center
Teresa planned the wedding perfectly, selecting the day that was exactly 13 years after the two of them became a couple – ensuring that the date would be remembered by the both of them for the rest of their lives. They met in college and hit it off almost immediately, enjoying a first date at the movie. As the years passed, they grew very close, and were more than ready to become man and wife. They both got ready at the College Park Marriott Hotel on the University of Maryland’s campus surrounded by friends and family. Smiles were on the faces of all as she got her hair and makeup done, and it was clear that all were excited for the moment that was about to come. By the time she slipped into her dress, she looked as though she belonged on the cover of a bridal magazine. In another room, meanwhile, Paapa also got ready for the big moment surrounded by his own wedding party.
This was such an emotional moment when Teresa revealed her gown to her bridesmaids. Everyone in the room was in tears.
By the time they were both ready, guests had already lined the chairs for the ceremony in the large room down below. By the time the bride arrived, they were all eager to see her with their own eyes. Teresa walked elegantly next to her father up the aisle to meet the love of her life, where they both lovingly exchanged their vows. As soon as the couple was pronounced man and wife, it was time for the real celebration to begin. We snapped photos of everyone as they filed out of the ceremony and into the celebration hall, as well as snapped as many photos as we could of the wedding party surrounding the couple. Staying true to the unique way they do things, Teresa and Paapa served all kinds of sweets to their guests, enjoying the time they spent together celebrating their new union. There was laughter and speeches, toasts and dancing. Of course, there was the bouquet and garter toss as well, only adding to the fun of the afternoon. We continued to hang out and snap photos of the couple and their celebration long into the evening, taking the perfect opportunity to snap the perfect parting shot as the two of them embraced at the end of their big day, ready to take on the next chapter of their lives as a single unit.
After all these years, there is no doubt this couple is built to last, and we are thrilled that we got to be there for the moment you became man and wife.
